| 636 Volunteer Gliding Squadron (VGS) is
based at Swansea Airport on Fairwood Common at
the heart of the Gower Peninsular, and has been
located there since October 1964 (except for 5
years at
Aberporth 1996
- 2001). The Gower offers some of the
best scenery in South Wales and the UK as a
whole, and is renowned for being an area of
outstanding natural beauty. |
| Our purpose at the Squadron, is to promote
and encourage among young people a practical
interest in aviation, under the umbrella of
The Air Cadet Organisation and
The Royal Air Force. |
| We run a number of courses to cater for
cadets of The Air Training Corps and Combined
Cadet Force (RAF section), which include
Glider Induction Courses
and Gliding
Scholarships. These operate every
weekend with optional intensive week courses for
those who have to travel a long way or have
limited means of transport. |
